In the wake of the horrific Bondi Beach mass shooting, ASF will hold “An evening with John Lott” to hear from an expert on crime and for us to have a spirited discussion on broader policy responses that will uphold the safety of the Australian people.
Mediated by Gigi Foster, this event will be ASF’s inaugural Vox Libera salon, following the style of 17th and 18th century European “salons” which were informal gatherings hosted in private homes to bring together thinkers to engage in lively discussion on important topics. Our plan is to hold many more salons and events at this special location in the future.
John R. Lott Jr. is an American economist, researcher, author, and prominent commentator on crime, guns, and public policy. His current role is President of the Crime Prevention Research Centre in the US.
He is best known for his work on the relationship between firearms and crime, most notably through his book More Guns, Less Crime (1998), which argues that right-to-carry laws and higher rates of gun ownership are associated with reductions in violent crime. The book has been influential in debates over gun policy but has also faced significant criticism.

The dinner will be pot luck style: all registrants are asked to bring a plate to share. Ticket revenues will go towards supporting John’s travel costs.
